This Madison, CT property needed a lot of work - and we mean a lot. Uneven ground, drainage issues, no real defined entry, and a yard that wasn't doing the home any favors. When a property has this many problems stacked on top of each other, the only real solution is a full scope approach. That's exactly what we put together here.
We started with the hardscape bones. A boulder wall went in to define the yard and manage the grade change along that side of the property. It's a substantial run of wall - large natural boulders stacked and set to hold their position long-term. Bluestone steps were incorporated to give clean, safe transitions between levels. A new walkway with bluestone stepping stones set in gravel ties the entry together and connects the home in a way that actually makes sense.
The drainage piece matters just as much as anything else. A French drain was installed to move water away from the foundation and yard before it becomes a problem. Without it, all the grading and lawn work downstream would be fighting a losing battle every time it rains. Getting the water management right first is how you make sure everything else lasts.
Once the hardscape and drainage were in, we moved on to grading the entire yard and prepping for lawn installation. The straw you see laid across the property is there to protect the seed and keep the soil from washing during rain events - standard practice for a seeding job done right. The yard was shaped and smoothed out before any seed went down, because a quality lawn starts with quality ground prep.
This one isn't finished yet - but the progress speaks for itself. Every piece of this project connects to the next. The wall, the steps, the walkway, the drain, the grading, the lawn. It all works together to make this yard functional and sharp. Stay tuned for the final reveal.
