This one is a good example of what it actually takes to get a lawn right. Most people want to skip straight to the finished product - green grass, clean edges, the whole picture. But what happens before the seed goes down is what determines whether any of that sticks. Here in Madison, CT, we've got a front yard that needed a full reset, and that's exactly what we're giving it.

We started with prep. The existing lawn was sparse, patchy, and in no condition to hold new growth. So before anything else, we cleared the space - stripped back the dead material and got the ground ready to work with. That step alone makes a huge difference. You can't build a healthy lawn on top of a failing one.

Once the yard was cleared, we brought in fresh material and got to work grading. A track skid steer is the right tool for this kind of job - it lets us move volume quickly without tearing up what's around it. The old debris gets loaded out and the new material comes in. Clean swap. The goal at this stage is a smooth, properly graded surface with the right soil composition underneath.

What we've got now is a blank slate. The ground is prepped, graded, and ready for the next phase. This is the part of a landscape installation that most people never see - and it's the part that matters most. Get the groundwork wrong, and no amount of seed or sod will save you. Get it right, and the rest of the job has a real shot at lasting.

We'll be posting the finished result as this one comes together. Lawn renovations like this are a big part of what we do, and we take the prep side just as seriously as the finish. Stay tuned.
